Tammy Tong joined the Cancer Epidemiology Unit in 2017. Tammy's main research interest is the role of diet in health. Her recent research at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit has been on the health effects of vegetarian and vegan diets, with a particular focus on cardiovascular disease and bone health, using data from EPIC-Oxford and the UK Biobank. Tammy was awarded an NDPH Fellowship in 2021 to lead research in the Dietary Protein and Stroke Consortium. She was subsequently awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship in 2023 to develop and lead a programme of research to understand the role of dietary and blood proteins in the development of age-related diseases related to bone and vascular health. Tammy is a member of the EPIC-Oxford Steering Committee, and also a Module Lead for the Principles of Epidemiology module as part of the MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology.

Prior to joining the Cancer Epidemiology Unit, Tammy received her PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge. She also holds a BSc in Human Sciences (University College London) and an MPhil in Epidemiology (University of Cambridge).
