The ICRP publication 60 formulation of remainder dose and its contribution to effective dose in internal dosimetry
Nelson CB., Phipps AW., Silk TJ., Kendall GM.
In ICRP Publication 60 the calculation of effective dose allows for the tissue weighting factor for remainder to be divided equally between the average dose to remainder tissues and the single most exposed remainder tissue if this receives the highest equivalent dose of all tissues. An investigation of the frequency and importance of this so-called 'split' remainder dose formulation is presented, with reference to the adult dose coefficients given in ICRP Publication 68. It is found that the 'split' remainder formulation is used more often than might first be expected. Although rare for ingestion dose coefficients, it is invoked in 65% of the inhalation dose coefficients considered.
